How Continuing Education Credit is Awarded

Dear Colleagues:

Re:   How Continuing Education Credit Is Granted By Attending

Dr. Peter Pruden’s “Oral Surgery Wisdom” Study Club:  (No Physical Certificate Will be Issued)

All of the Oral Surgery Wisdom Study Club’s courses are sponsored by the Suffolk County Dental Society (SCDS), an ADA-CERP recognized provider of Continuing Education (CE) approved by the New York State Dental Association and a designated PACE Program Provider for the Academy of General Dentistry.

All attendees, (dentists and hygienists), must sign in at the lecture on sign in sheets provided in order to receive continuing education credit and stay until the conclusion of the lecture.

Dr. Peter Pruden’s office then sends these sign in sheets to SCDS who then in turn sends them to New York State Dental Society.  See process below.  Please allow at least 6 plus weeks from the date of the seminar attended to see the continuing education credit in NYSDA’s on line registry under your name.

For those attendees (dentists who are members of the ADA and hygienists), these courses are offered as a professional courtesy by Dr. Peter Pruden to his referring dentists.  Dr. Pruden pays the necessary fees to SCDS to offer lectures to his Oral Surgery Study Club.

  • For ADA dentists, Suffolk County Dental Society (SCDS) will place members’ continuing education information in their New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) REGISTRY of NYSDA.  NYSDA will then make each member’s continuing education registry available to them on line.  For those who are members of AGD, credits will be forwarded to the AGD for their registry.  AGD members must sign in on the green AGD sign in sheets provided.
  • For hygienists, as long as you signed in on the sign in forms, a record of your attendance has been recognized. Your information IS NOT entered into any registry. If audited, these attendees can request a certificate from SCDS at a fee designated by SCDS per certificate.

For those attendees (dentists) who are NOT members of the ADA, Suffolk County Dental Society will charge a fee in 2016 of $50 per course which is payable at registration on the day of the seminar to Dr. Peter Pruden.  He will in turn submit that fee to SCDS.

Non ADA members are responsible for keeping track of their own continuing education credit.

  • There is NO registry for NON  ADA members at NYSDA.
  • If audited, these attendees can request a certificate from SCDS at a fee designated by SCDS per certificate.

Please note it is a good idea for ALL ATTENDEES to keep the folders our study club issues at each seminar in a file by year.  This way the dentist can easily refer to the course attended and the date and year. If you need to reach SCDS, you may call them at 631-232-1400.

Best Regards,

Peter H. Pruden, DDS
